This website is intended to provide background information and updates regarding our Senior Design Project. In order to complete our prototype, we are working in collaboration with:
Washington University in St. Louis School of Engineering and Applied Sciences
BME 401 is a yearlong course within the School of Engineering's Department of Biomedical Engineering.
St. Louis Children's Hospital Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
Our client, Dr. Allan Doctor, specializes in Pediatric Critical Care at Children's.
What is our design idea?
We propose to deliver a portable, mechanical device that converts a child's physical effort into an interactive display. For our device to be used by clinicians and caretakers, it must:
be safe to use by a technology-dependent child with limited range of motion due to severe illness, surgery, or accommodation of wires, tubes, and other equipment.
appropriately motivate young users to engage in physical activity. The interface must hold a child's attention for 3 minutes per their year of age (Fort Carson MEDDAC).
provide physicians and caretakers with access to user's progress in the form of a simple report. The report should have images and less than 20 words.
